15 STUDIES IN CULTURE

The Degree Programme in Communication Studies includes work within three areas - Culture, Information Technology and Digital Communications. After graduating, students are qualified to work in various roles as web and multi-media professionals. However, the expertise they have built up is in equally great demand in more traditional fields such as journalism and media industry.

The Degree Programme teaches students how to put their skill in both digital communication and information technology to good use in business. Students will become familiar with product planning, marketing and the financial administration of digital communications. In addition, students look very carefully at digital culture, media art, and multimedia production, as well as new communication techniques for marketing. The object of the degree is to give students practical and versatile skills, including the ability to provide content using digital media, and the technical skills necessary to thrive in a business environment and in an increasingly wireless world.

In the future, as IT professionals, they will be able to do anything from content planning to technical realisation, because they will be completely familiar with the production process of a digital communication product.

The degree requires students to have 160 credits, which can be earned in 4-5 years. The degree is called medianomi (AMK).

Currently most of the studies are in Finnish but the Programme is in the process of developing more studies in English for the academic year of 2003-2004.
