• understand the role of law in business and gain knowledge of legal principles

• explain the legal requirements for setting up a business
• appreciate the effects of law on business life and understand the extension of the
contractual relationship to commercial transactions
• recognise legal issues that could affect marketing decisions
• understand in general terms what laws and processes exist to protect intellectual
property in products/services to be marketed
• consider the use of trademarks to protect the interests and reputation of business

• use mathematics to solve business-related practical problems
• make simple pricing and interest calculations
