9.1.3 KV1704 Communication and Cultural Context (3 ECTS)

Objectives and content:

Students will learn how cultural context influences communication and the production, distribution and interpretation / reception of meaning(s). This year the course will focus on Japanese popular culture and explore various media such as manga, anime and cinema. The approach will be interdisciplinary, applying methods from Japanese studies, sociology, semiotics, and media studies. Wide use will be made of visual material.
